The sky is comprised of every brief passing moment and woven together with the thread of every lifetime. It is a pool of everything that once was and what will one day be. The sky is life and life is the sky. Look to the sky when the panic and dread set in. When those existential questions bite and bleed. You will be greeted by something vast and indescribably cold, but you will also feel familiarity. The same twinkling stars settling into your focus are the same that your ancestors saw. Let the poetry sung out by the supernovas seep into your bones as you relish in their decaying beauty. Any control you believe you hold shall relinquish itself. You are not in control and it’s terrifying. It’s like a freefall–a spiral bound to happen. Piecing together the known, both past and present, and pasting it onto the expanse of space is a way to try and make sense of it all. Aim to not gain clarity, but to find solace in the unknown.

Frankly, this existence we’ve all been dealt is complicated and confusing and strange. My work seeks to explore the connection between this perplexing reality and the sky. Because to look up at the stars is to remember the loved ones we’ve lost, the loved ones we’ve gained, and how beautiful it all is to have just experienced them. Allow yourself to think about who they were, who they are, and who they could be. Finally, think about yourself. Soak in everything and feel a wave of gratefulness, not grief or anxiety. The planets, stars, and sun encompass life and we are life.
